Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) Bangboo Guide: Tier list, abilities, how to get, and more

Defeat your enemies with cuteness.

Bangboos are adorable creatures, so I’m thrilled they can be sidekicks in battle. Let me explain how to get and use Bangboos, their abilities, a tier list, and much more in our Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) Bangboo guide.

How to get Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero

Let me explain how to get Bangboo before we dive into a heated debate on which is the best.

As you progress through the main story, you’ll eventually be told to visit Enzo on Sixth Street. This event will happen shortly after the playable tutorial about Hollow Zero. You can visit Enzo anytime by selecting the Remodeling Shop from the Fast Travel menu.

You’ll be given your first Bangboo for free (the glorious “Bagboo”), while the rest can be obtained from the Signal Search.

You can also target specific S-Rank Bangboo’s by pressing the button in the right corner (pictured above). As with every other Signal Search, you’re not guaranteed to get the Bangboo you want, but it improves your chances.

Instead of Tapes, which you can get with Residual and Fading Signals, you can use Boopons to get Bangboos.

Boopons can be obtained from a few sources (pictured above), so there’s no need to spend premium currency on them.

How to use Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero

You can do several things with Bangboo, so let’s start with how to use them in battle.

Once you have your first Bangboo, you can add them to your party when selecting your Agents for any commission. Sadly, you can’t take direct control of your Bangboo, but they will wander around in combat and attack enemies.

Some Bangboo’s can also be used in Chain attacks, provided their requirements are met.

How to view, upgrade, and optimize your Bangboos

You can upgrade Bangboos much like you would with Agents, but you must be in the Remodeling Shop to do so. Select the Bangboo you wish to upgrade from the list at the bottom. Once selected, you can increase your Bangboo’s level (System Optimization). You can also increase your Bangboo’s rank if you receive duplicates.

Oddly enough, you can see every Bangboo in the Remodelling shop, including ones you don’t own. Your Bangboo’s are colored in and are all on the left of the list.

All Bangboo’s and abilities listed

At the time of writing, there are 20 Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero, 8 S-Rank, and 12 A-Rank. As we can target-farm S-Ranks, we can pull for specific desired abilities. If you need help deciding which Bangboo to focus on, here are the skills for every S-Rank:

Bangboo S-Rank Tier List

As you can see from the abilities above, Bangboo’s aren’t created equally. As with any ranked list, take this with a grain of salt, as the game is new, and we’ve not discovered everything.

Some Bangboo’s are powerful but have niche applications. For example, I’m rocking Bangvolver because Billy is my favorite Agent, and their abilities synergize nicely. Bangvolver is excellent for my team but utterly useless on a team that doesn’t utilize Physical Damage.

Bangboo Tier List explained

We’ll update this guide if testing reveals wildly different results.

I’ve placed Sharkboo at the top, as Ellen is an Ice Agent and arguably the best DPS unit in the game. I’ve also ranked Butler as S-Tier because every team will benefit from the Energy Boost.

All A-tier Bangboo’s are viable but require a specific team to work with. If your team leans into a particular type of damage, the matching Bangboo will provide welcome gains.

The only Bangboo I’m unsure about is Safety. A 20% damage boost sounds insignificant compared to Amilion, for example, which does 45%. Safety can be given a 40% damage boost, but only if your opponents are afflicted with specific debuffs. I’m not sold on the ability descriptions, but I can’t say for sure without thorough testing.

If you’re still getting to grips with the lingo in ZZZ, make sure you swat up on the currencies first. The terminology may be overwhelming at first, but you’ll get the hang of it if you keep playing.
