You can finally unlock Overwatch 2 heroes with credits, but only for a limited time

Purchase heroes instead of unlocking them.

One of the major controversies of Overwatch 2 was how players would have to go about unlocking new heroes. Players who remember the first iteration of Overwatch will fondly think back of the days when heroes were available to play immediately after release, for free, too. But with a new battle pass systems, players can still unlock all of the new heroes for free, they just need to jump through some extra hoops. Fortunately, Blizzard is giving players another avenue of unlocking new heroes, according to an article from Forbes.

When Season 7 of Overwatch 2 launches (Overwatch 2: Rise of Darkness), you can use some credits you have saved up to unlock some of the new Overwatch 2 heroes. These include the herose Sojourn, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Ramattra, and Lifeweaver. This, notably, does not include the newest Support hero, Illari, although you can still unlock her for free by completing her challenges as she will exit her inaugural season. And thanks to a bug from the game’s anniversary event, all players will earn 3,000 credits, which should allow you to grab a new hero you haven’t unlocked yet.

The current method of unlocking Overwatch 2 heroes are as follows: buy the battle pass in a hero’s inaugural season, or wait until the subsequent season and then complete a series of “Hero Challenges” to unlock them instead. That’s all fine and dandy, but it does require you to rack up a ton of wins on the hero’s role, which can take a significant time. So to cut back on the time spent unlocking a hero is appreciated, even if credits may not be the most accessible thing for players.

According to Forbes, this window will start on October 10, and will only be available for one week. Be sure to unlock all the heroes you want before the week ends, or you’ll have to buy future battle passes or complete hero challenges to unlock the heroes you want.
