Every character and enemy in Wuthering Waves has an element associated with them like Electro or Glacio, but how much do these actually affect combat? Unlike Genshin Impact, there aren’t any elemental reactions in Wuthering Waves, so what’s the point of elements at all?
While there aren’t any elemental reactions or combinations that will affect your teambuilding strategies in Wuthering Waves, knowing the elements of your Resonators and your enemies can make or break your battles. Combat skill is still king at the end of the day in a game like Wuthering Waves, but elemental matchups can make things a lot easier or a lot harder.
Do Elements Matter in Wuthering Waves?
There are no set elemental weaknesses and resistances in Wuthering Waves. Not every ice-themed enemy will be weak to attacks from a Glacio Resonator, for example. However, that doesn’t mean that elemental weaknesses and resistances aren’t present at all.
Some enemies — especially bosses — have increased resistances to certain elements. The Thundering Mephis boss, for example, is resistant to Electro damage. There are no elemental weaknesses in Wuthering Waves, however, so you can’t deal bonus damage with the right elemental matchup. You just need to avoid bringing a Resonator that deals resisted damage to a fight to succeed.
You can check the resistances of Wuthering Waves enemies in the Echo Hunting section of your Guidebook. Keep in mind that not every enemy has an elemental resistance. Most of them do, though, so be sure to do your research before jumping into endgame modes like Tower of Adversity.
There’s not much else to the elemental system in Wuthering Waves other than building your characters with matching elemental stats from Echoes, so it’s not nearly as important as it is in a game like Genshin Impact. You can succeed with any Resonator in Wuthering Waves as long as their damage type isn’t resisted by a certain boss, and even then, you can rely on the other characters in your team to pick up their slack.
