Oh, you thought there were a lot of zombies in Saber Interactive’s World War Z? Hold our beer, because the odds are about to be even more against you. In a post at the PlayStation Blog, the developers behind the co-op action game revealed that the game will finally get Horde Mode Z starting tomorrow, December 17, in a free update.

Can you survive Horde Mode Z?

Although creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick didn’t reveal too many secrets about the mode, he gave an idea of what to expect. It will feature a number of new weapons, as well as environmental tools and traps. You’ll need every single one of them, as you have a prolonged period of time to set them up for the next wave of enemies. According to Hollis-Leick, this translates to “a more distinct preparation phase in between each increasingly more difficult wave.” You’ll have a slew of tools and use every last bit of them.

The new World War Z map that will be introduced with the mode will have zombies coming in every direction. An exact count wasn’t given, but the game’s engine can currently hold 500 on screen at once. And that means they’re all coming at you at once. So, yeah, you should get ready.

On top of that, a new zombie type, the Bomber, will join the fray. This destructive creature doesn’t really care about living, as he’ll blow himself up at a moment’s notice. And what’s more, he’s ready to take anyone within his range with him. So kill him first and then see if his explosives can take out a few others in the process.

A trailer isn’t available yet, but you probably have a pretty good mental image of what’s coming already. Just be ready — and get a good team to join you.

World War Z is available now on Epic Games Store.
