Both the quality and reputation of CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 have improved substantially since its infamous launch back in 2020. And with the Phantom Liberty DLC arriving in just over a week, the game’s reputation has the potential to improve even further. But whether you already own the base game or plan to buy it alongside the DLC, you might wonder how CD Projekt Red chose to price the expansion. Ideally, Phantom Liberty would come as a free update to Cyberpunk 2077, potentially saving customers a good bit of money. But will it actually become possible to get a hold of it without spending anything?
Can you get the DLC for free?
You may have already expected this, but the Phantom Liberty DLC will, in fact, not come free of charge. Once it drops, Phantom Liberty will boast a standard retail price of $29.99 USD on top of the $59.99 you pay for the base game. If you have not yet purchased the base game, you can buy the Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty Bundle for $82.78 USD, an 8 percent discount from what you would pay when getting them separately.

Cyberpunk 2077 players who can’t afford the DLC quite yet won’t end up left out, however, as a fairly substantial free update will release a few days before it. This update, which brings the game up to its 2.0 version, revamps a variety of features, including police AI and the skill tree system. The $29.99 price tag for Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC might end up a bit too steep for some, especially for those really hoping they could download it for free. But if the DLC ends up delivering in a way that the base game didn’t at launch, then it could be well worth the price.
