Will Baldur’s Gate 3 get DLC? Answered

Never enough.

Many Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are wondering whether or not Baldur’s Gate 3 will get a DLC. Although the game is incredibly long and packed with content, it leaves you wanting more.

But do we know if Baldur’s Gate 3 will ever get DLC, or whether an announcement is imminent? We’ll answer this question below.

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC coming in the future?

Although the future is uncertain, there are some things we know. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this, it doesn’t seem like Baldur’s Gate 3 will get DLC. Of course, that’s just what the verdict seems to be three months past release, so anything could change.

Larian Studios has continued to update and patch Baldur’s Gate 3 with bug fixes and minor content additions. For example, it added the Magic Mirror that allows you to change the way your character looks. I think we can expect smaller additions and updates like this in the near future since the studio hasn’t spoken up about any DLC plans yet.

In an IGN interview with the senior product manager at Larian Studios, Tom Butler said this about future BG3 expansions:

We’ll carry on patching for a while and then we’re all going to take a holiday and then we’ll figure out what we do next. But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don’t know what yet.

After the hard-working developers take a nice holiday, we can then expect them to be thinking on what’s next for the company. We do know that in another IGN interview with Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, he stated that after taking a break they’d like to go back to Divinity: Original Sin at some point. It’s their own universe it created, and Original Sin 2 was quite the success, so I could see that being its next project.

But that doesn’t mean a team couldn’t devote themselves to a small-scaled DLC in the future. Since the highest level you can get to in BG3 is 12, adding new levels may make you feel way too overpowered, and everything is less of a challenge. Some of the higher-level spells in D&D are quite lethal, so adding DLC with further character levels would be difficult.

Whatever comes to pass, I think time will tell whether or not we get DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3. But for now, we’ll just have to enjoy replaying new campaigns and relishing in the small bits of content we do receive.
