Directly after customizing your character in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to customize your Guardian. But, who is the Guardian in BG3? In this guide, we’ll shed light on who the Guardian is so you can have a better idea of who exactly you’re customizing at the start of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Note: If you’re still unsure about your personal customized character, I highly recommend you check out our best class, subclass, and race guide to help you get an understanding of how to make your perfect build.
Who is the customizable Guardian at the start of Baldur’s Gate 3?
The moment you press “Proceed” after customizing your character in BG3, you’ll be tasked with creating your Guardian. I’m around 15 hours into the campaign of Baldur’s Gate 3, and from what I’ve experienced, the Guardian is an NPC that appears in your dreams and plays a big role in the plot.
I’m not going to spoil anything, but the tadpole plot introduced at the beginning of Baldur’s Gate 3 is just a fraction of what you’ll experience later on in the campaign, and the Guardian seems to be a big catalyst character for introducing the bigger picture.
All you need to know about the Guardian is that they are an ally and they are important to the plot, so you might want to put a little time and detail into making them look cool since you’ll undoubtedly run into them sooner or later.
Can you romance the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3?
It has been confirmed that you can romance the Guardian in BG3. I mean, you get to fully customize the character, and you’re likely going to make them hot, so romance options better be on the table — and they are.
However, romancing your Guardian won’t happen until much later in the campaign. Since you only have brief encounters with the Guardian in Act 1, it’s only natural that you won’t start getting to know them or be able to romance them until much later. In the meantime, you should learn how to romance all the companions in BG3.
