Starfield – where to sell survey data

When you first reach a new planet in one of the numerous systems, you’ll gain some XP. As you develop skills, you can also scan the surface of the planet and acquire survey data. Note that in order to get each planet’s survey data you need to scan everything there is to scan, including the following:

  • Fauna
  • Flora
  • Planet traits
  • Resources

The results of those scans become items in your inventory with various values attached. While you can just go ahead and sell any survey data you have to the Trade Authority in New Atlantis, there are much more profitable options for you. First off, visit Vladimir on the space station known as The Eye, located near the planet Jemison.

Vladimir is a character you meet early in the campaign while completing the Into the Unknown mission. That mission has some tricky elements, so check our guides on how to follow distortions and how to investigate the source of the anomaly if you need assistance. Vladimir sometimes helps Constellation with its efforts, but mostly he stays on The Eye. Following the completion of that early mission, you can travel to the space station and dock, then run down a corridor to meet with him again.

The Eye is not far from Jemison, the planet where you find New Atlantis. It is within the Alpha Centauri system. If you’re like me, you visit that system pretty often, because of all the resources available. You can pull up your Starmap from the pause menu, then make your selections to warp to The Eye. You should appear in space and you can fly to your destination, then Dock with it to pay a visit. Vladimir pays generously for survey data. Moreover, he will accept survey data from either inhabitable or habitable planets.

Finally, if you want to make the absolute most out of your survey data, visit Phill Hill at Cydonia, on Mars. He will only accept habitable planet survey data, so take this into account if you have a bunch of survey data of inhabitable planets in your inventory.

Get in the habit of scanning any planets and moons you find. You can make it easier to scan lots of locations by activating and upgrading the Astrophysics skill, buried deep within the Science branch of your skill tree. If any buyer runs out of money, just sit down and wait for 24 hours. They will then have more money to spend and continue purchasing your survey data.

Starfield is available to purchase on Steam and the Microsoft Store.
