Starfield – where to find Vulture’s Roost and get a free ship

Over the course of the campaign, you can acquire several free ships, not counting the ones you might steal from Spacers. Some of those ships are much better than anything else you might be able to buy early in your adventure, which makes finding and securing them a priority. To find the free Dagger ship for your fleet, visit the Vulture’s Roost outpost on Jaffa IV.

Where to find Vulture’s Roost

First, find Jaffa system. Helpfully, it is not far from the Alpha Centauri system where your journey begins. I went with the Dream Home trait at the start of the game, so I return to the Olympus system quite frequently. On the Starmap, the Jaffa system is a short distance to its upper right, not quite due south from the Kryx system (see the above screenshot).

Next, choose the Vulture’s Roost landing area. You have to find the Jaffa IV planet within the system. It is near the lower left portion. Then you can select Vulture’s Roost to fast travel right to that specific location.

What you’ll find at Vulture’s Roost

Once you land near Vulture’s Roost, explore the area for loot. There is a lot of loot, guarded by hostile Ecliptic mercenaries who have occupied the area. You should bring along plenty of items such as Trauma Packs and Med Packs, so you can withstand damage your adversaries may inflict as you explore. You can also scavenge some of those items. There are numerous safes and locked doors to investigate along the way. Hopefully, you have plenty of digipicks and the relevant Security skill experience (if you are at Expert level, you should be able to open most locked doors you encounter).

To find the free ship at Vulture’s Roost, work your way through the complex. Start your exploration by heading along the outside scaffolding near the landing pad. There is a Jail Computer in one of the first buildings that you can interact with to Open Door. Pass through additional doors and follow scaffolding to arrive at an interior bar and amusement area. Then pass through some more doors and scaffolding to finally reach an open interior area with guards posted along catwalks. This is the hangar. Descend through the hangar, taking out the last of the mercenaries, to finally reach the Dagger ship at the bottom. Eliminate the crew and sit in the pilot’s seat. Launch from the hangar to claim the ship for your fleet.
