To find barreleye, you must unlock the Glacier Passage in the game. That means progressing the story to Chapter 5: Frozen Passage by helping the Sea People unlock the way with a key, after you’ve finished bearing an entire cavern full of mutated murderous Sea People. Once you’ve unlocked and have access to the Glacier Passage, you can easily come back using the Sea People mirror and swimming over its entrance. And each time you come down, barreleyes are right there in the first room.

They will most likely take multiple Harpoon spears to harvest depending on your upgrades, but that’s about it. You won’t have any trouble catching barreleyes.
