Since the Battlefield franchise decided to stop being a good game series, we have all been a bit starved of big, open-world, fully destructive, first-person mayhem. However, The Finals has stepped up, and with an impending release date, it’s safe to say we’re all excited.
The Finals release date
As of yet, there is no official release date for The Finals. It is expected to hit storefronts by late 2023, with an open beta available before this date. This means we won’t have too long to wait until we can all get our teeth into The Finals.
Two open betas have already been rolled out in both March and June 2023. However, one final test may be available. You will have to keep your eyes on the Steam page for invites.
The Finals gameplay
From what we have seen in the trailers, it looks like we will be getting the good old days of destructive environments and high-octane gunplay back. With the resounding flop of Battlefield 2042, the market has been in desperate need of something in this vein. Hopefully, the release of The FInals will step up to the mark.
The Finals look to be combining gun and melee warfare together for battles that can be approached in many different ways. Gaining kills and taking points will no doubt reward players with currency and XP to spend on cosmetics and better gear.
Embark Studios has opted for a free-to-play approach to the game, leaving it open to everyone. This will only encourage more people to get involved in The Finals come its 2023 release date. The studio themselves are relatively unknown in the field, but this may just be the game that puts them on the map. I, for one, am very much looking forward to some big, open-world warfare with my friends. I feel it has been too long since someone shook up the genre and had people talking.
