Each Assassin’s Creed game takes place in different settings and time periods around the world. This makes for some very unique locations, story, and gameplay. But what about Assassin’s Creed Mirage? This Ubisoft game was created to feel and play like the classic AC games, both in game mechanics and even map size. So when exactly does AC Mirage take place? We’ll answer this question below.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage: When and where does it take place?
Although you may recognize the main character from the previous installment, this title starts before then. AC Mirage takes place in the year 861 in Baghdad, which is the capital city of modern Iraq. Back then, it was the capital of Abbasid Caliphate, an Islamic dynasty, the third one actually.
The game’s events, while mostly fictional, still take place during a real time in history. Specifically, the story revolves around the Anarchy at Sammara, which was a nine-year period of instability and power struggles. In these nine years, four caliphs (religious and political leaders of the Islamic state) were puppets for rival Turkish military groups. Each Assassin’s Creed game typically happens during some tense time in history, but this is a whole new location and struggle.

You’ll probably witness history unfold within AC Mirage, but it all starts with the murder of Caliph al-Mutawakkil. His Turkish guards were behind it, but perhaps in this Ubisoft game it’ll also have something to do with the Order of the Ancients, who are predecessors of the Templars. Throughout all AC games, these two groups are enemies of the Hidden Ones and the Brotherhood. So we should expect a lot of historical accuracy, with some twists to fit the typical AC narrative.
We’re not sure yet how long AC Mirage runs for throughout its story, perhaps it’ll last throughout the entirety of the Anarchy at Sammara. You’ll have to get your hands on the game yourself to figure that one out.
