When did the PS4 come out? All release date details

Birth of a generation.

The PS4 was Playstation’s second most successful console after the roaring success of the PlayStation 2. With an unbelievable 117 million units sold, it wildly outstripped its predecessor. The PlayStation 4 was host to some of the best exclusives of the Sony franchise and secured the company as one of the all-time classics of the industry. The PS4 came out a total of seven years after the PS3, and those years were well spent. The PS4 release date marked the next area of console gaming for the billion-dollar industry.

When did the PS4 come out?

The PS4 had separate release dates around the world as it rolled out in different regions. The debate as to why this practice still occurs with both video games and consoles is up for debate. Some think they come out for specific regions’ retail practices, while others put it down to titles not being ready yet.

Americas release date

The PS4 Was released in the United States and Canada on November 15, 2013. There were then further releases on November 29, 2013. The newest console on the market would have set you back $399 dollars if you wanted one under your Christmas tree.

Europe and Africa release date

This region is where the PAL version of the console was released. The PS4 was released on November 29th, 2013, a solid two weeks after the Americas had got their hands on it. The console cost a staggering €399.99, £349.99. This was a lot for most to hand over, but the console promised to be worth it.

Japan release date

Japan had to wait until the next year for the release of the PS4. It didn’t come out until February 22nd, 2014. It cost ¥39,980 at retail, despite the long wait time. Interestingly, Japan discontinued all but the slim version of the console on January 5, 2021, in order to make more PlayStation 5’s.

Playstation 4 Slim and Pro release

The smaller, sexier, sleeker PS4 was release was worldwide on September 16. 2016 offering less shelf space and fans that didn’t sound like a Chinook helicopter. The performance-enhanced PS4 Pro came out on November 10, 2016.
