The power of Darkness will only get you this far, so it is time to use the power of Skill Points! Let us talk about what skills you should upgrade first in Sand Land.
Sand Land: What skills to upgrade first
While leveling up will not be as frequent as other games, Sand Land does feature a selection of skills you can invest your Skill Points in across you as Beelzebub and your party members, with a separate count of Skill Points being allocated each time you level up. Picking the right skills will allow you to gain some early advantage during your travels across Sand Land, so let’s take a look at what will be the best skills you can invest your first Skill Points in.
Beelzebub Skills
Beelzebub’s skills are mostly based on combat maneuverability, combos, and HP and Darkness boosts, among others. I would recommend investing Skill Points in the first column on the left of Beelzebub’s Skill Tree. This will unlock the following Skills and bonuses:
- New Finishing Move: This will allow you to finish your combo with the heavy attack button.
- Aerial Evasion: Evading will become very important early on given the damage you will end up receiving from enemies, with aerial evasion being a very important addition.
- Charged Attack: This powerful attack will help you out by defeating enemies as long as you can charge it.
- Max HP Boost 1: Given the limited HP you get from the get-go, this boost is a must.
- Enhance Rush: Rush is the first special attack you will learn, which will end up being the most used one of them all. A damage boost will always come in handy.
Rao Skills: Prioritize damage
For players that will prioritize damage per second and explosive damage capabilities, then spending Skill Points in Rao’s Skill Tree will greatly benefit your intentions. All of his skills are worth investing in, but I would focus on getting anything related to the Vehic. Warfare skill. This will allow Rao to use his personal tank and help you out by shooting and destroying hostile vehicles. Grab the VW: Boost and VW: Decoy to increase this skill’s duration and allow Rao to draw hostile vehicles toward him.
Thief Skills: Prioritize resource collection and passive effects
Thief, on the other hand, focuses on skills that will become useful outside of combat as well as resource collection bonuses. Whether you are struggling with item collection or not, I suggest spending Skill Points on the following skills:
- Spoils of War: You will find more resources after defeating enemies.
- Zeni Ahoy: Will increase the amount of money – aka Zeni – you get from defeating enemies.
- Item Picker: Thief will pick up resources from the surroundings by destroying rocks, trees, cacti, etc.
- Thief Radar: This will allow you to detect hidden items in your current area.
You are free to invest as many Skill Points as you want on you and your party members. However, in the case of Rao and Thief, I recommend balancing your point investment, although I would invest more in Rao given the power and overall importance of vehicle damage in Sand Land. Other than that, Thief’s skills are great for finding resources which will come in handy to upgrade those vehicles as well, so don’t forget to upgrade him as well.
