Ark Survival Ascended drops you in a dangerous ecosystem, where survival means growing comfortable with the numerous systems at play. To help grow that all-important knowledge, here is our guide explaining what Torpidity is in Ark Survival Ascended.
Ark Survival Ascended – what is Torpidity?
Roaming around the wilderness and battling monsters and other players can exhaust a person. Art imitates life, you might say. Energy matters. In fact, Ark Survival Ascended goes so far as to keep track of just how weary you have become. In Ark Survival, your Torpidity measures just how much energy a character or dinosaur has expended.
An elevated Torpidity rating is a bad thing, like a high score in golf. Less is more. The higher your Torpidity rating, the closer you are to unconsciousness. If you max out the rating, you’ll pass out for a bit. An unconscious state leaves you open to fatal attacks or other malicious activity by other players and dinosaurs.
Once you fall unconscious, you must wait for your Torpidity rating to drop to zero before you can resume your adventure. By that time, you might already be a goner. The dodo pictured in the screenshot at the top of this article didn’t mind its Torpidity closely enough. We all know how that worked out for dodos.
Managing your Torpidity
Your Torpidity rating increases for a variety of reasons. If you’re starving or dehydrated, that adds Torpidity over time. Similarly, any attacks you perform while your Stamina supply is exhausted increase your Torpidity.

If you notice your Torpidity rating inching toward its breaking point, quickly lower it by consuming Stimberries or Stimulants. Make sure you monitor your Torpidity before it enters the danger zone. Should your character happen to pass out, an ally can administer one of those same items to put you back in the action sooner. But can you really count on that support? If you find that your Torpidity rises too quickly and too frequently, invest some stat points in your Fortitude attribute to build some endurance. If you’re like me, you can never have too much Fortitude.
