Diablo 4 Overpower Damage and Overpower Chance, explained
Overpower in Diablo 4 is an attack that deals bonus damage based on the sum of your total current Life and Fortified Life. I loved using Overpower Damage when I played Blood Necromancer as it helped shape my build into deleting huge groups of enemies. The reason Overpower Damage was so effective for my Blood Necromancer was because I had skills that always kept me at full health and max Fortified, and other skills that dealt Overpower Damage attacks that one-shot even the toughest enemies.
At first, Overpower seems similar to Critical Strike Chance. While they are similar — Critical Strike Chance and Overpower allow you to deal bonus damage — Critical Strike Chance deals bonus damage based on your Critical Strike Damage stat and Overpower deals bonus damage based on your current Life and Fortified Life.
Every class has the ability to deal Overpower Damage thanks to Overpower Chance being an intrinsic stat every class has. However, Overpower Chance is only increased through passive abilities and specific gear. So, if you want to make the most of Overpower Damage, you need to look for skills and gear that focus on Overpower.
To make Overpower an effective offensive stat, you need to increase your Overpower Chance through passive abilities and gear. Just like when trying to make a good Critical Strike Chance build, with Overpower, you’ll be most effective the higher your Overpower Chance is.
While focusing on increasing the Overpower Chance, you also want to increase the Overpower Damage percentage. The higher your Overpower Damage stat, the more damage you’ll do — that and you need to stay at full Life and Fortify. If you aren’t at full health and full Fortify, then Overpower won’t do too much damage.
With high Overpower Chance and Overpower Damage, you’ll one-shot groups of enemies and deal very high damage to elites and bosses. Just make sure to have ways to stay at full health and full Fortify as well to maximize the amount of Overpower Damage you deal.
Overpower allows you to charge through most Dungeons and encounters in Diablo 4 just because Overpower can be that good. Just make sure your game isn’t stuttering or lagging.
