Diablo 4 can be vague. Whether they did it on purpose or not isn’t something I care to go into, but it does leave a lot of questions. What is Lilith’s favorite dinosaur? Do thorns hurt to grow? What on earth is Barrier Generation in Diablo 4? All of these questions can be answered with a little research, and thankfully, that is what I am here for. I have not put the time into the first two questions yet, but I can comfortably answer the third.
What is Barrier Generation in Diablo 4?
Basically, it determines how efficiently and rapidly your barrier generates on your player. But that answers very little. What it really comes down to is percentages and what they’re building on in the first place. It can be broken down into two different sections.
- Barrier Generation based on base life – So this perk will add barrier generation based solely on your base life. It cannot draw from any extra life perks you may have or your max life. Progressing it past 100% is basically pointless.
- Barrier Generation based on max life – This will work based on your maximum life and generate a barrier as a percentage. Fortify is a good example of this, as it will be applied as a percentage of your max life rather than your base life.
Understanding Barrier Generation
Barrier Generation is simply a shield that sits over your base life. It will absorb damage taken without it affecting your underlying health. Barriers will have many ways they can be built back up, whether it is over time or performing certain acts within the game.
Using specific builds, it becomes possible to add almost an entirely new health bar to your more squishy characters. It is important to be able to use a barrier against heavy attacks without having to delve into your supply of potions. You will see it displayed as a blue coating over your health.
