This underwater Soulslike lets you perform special moves with a sweet and salty kick. Here’s everything you need to know about Umami attacks in Another Crab’s Treasure.
Another Crab’s Treasure: What are Umami Attacks
Umami abilities are tied to your shell. Every shell in the game comes with its own Umami ability that can either act as a defense attack or a more offensive ability. You’ll unlock Umami after you naturally reach a certain point in the game so don’t worry about missing them.
These Umami abilities can have interesting effects in battle. Take Shellshock for example, this Umami attack lets you electrify your shell so that enemies take damage when striking it. Or Fizzle, which pushes enemies away with pressurized air. These abilities can make combat a little less stressful, especially if you’re dealing with a group of enemies.
Fair warning though, Umami abilities don’t come without a little cost. The purple stars above your Shell health meter tell you how many times you can use your Umami ability. Once these run out you’ll need to hit enemies to recharge it. So you need to use these abilities sparingly when possible. But if you’re planning on taking out every enemy you see you don’t need to worry too much.
How to improve Umami abilities
If you find that Umami attacks are on the weaker side, there’s a good reason for that. You need to spend points on the MSG stat in the Level Up screen to improve their damage. But if you’re in the early hours of the game I’d advise against putting lots of points into this stat.
You need to build out your character carefully since Another Crab’s Treasure can be fairly brutal at the start. And since Umami attacks range in usefulness, you may want to save those level-ups for when you’ve got a move that you really like.
