If anyone needs the best weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s Karlach. With the best weapons equipped, Karlach becomes a beastly Barbarian who can face any challenge head-on.
While Barbarians are proficient in many weapons, if you want to create the best Karlach build, you need the best weapons which are Greatswords, Maces, Halberds, Clubs, Tridents, and other large melee weapons. The bigger, the better.
Best Karlach weapons in BG3 Act 1 – Sussor Greatsword, Blood of Lathander
The two best Act 1 weapons I found for Karlach are found toward the end of the Act in the Underdark and Creche Y’llek which you get to by going through the Mountain Pass. Before you reach these weapons, use whatever you can find that deals high damage. Although you can always return to content you skip over, I don’t recommend rushing to get these items in Act 1 because you have to get past some tough enemies that might stop you in your tracks.
The Sussur Greatsword deals 2d6 +1 + Strength modifier slashing damage. It’s a two-handed weapon that is special because you can Silence a target on a successful hit. This allows you to completely negate spellcasters from casting spells just by landing a normal or critical hit.
Getting the Sussur Greatsword is easy to miss as there are a lot of things to do in BG3 Act 1. To get it, you need to finish the Finish the Masterwork Weapon quest which requires you to combine a Greatsword and Sussur Tree Bark which you get in the Underdark in the Blacksmith’s Forge which is in a building in the Blighted Village.
Blood of Lathander is the best weapon you can get in Act 1. It is a one-handed Mace that deals 1d6 + 3 + Strength modifier bludgeoning damage. It’s special because it has Lathander’s Light which always casts light within a 6m radius, Lathander’s Blessing which restores your health by 2d6 once per Long Rest after your HP falls to zero, and you get Sunbeam, a level six spell, that recharges every Long Rest.
Getting Blood of Lathander is a process. You need to go through the Mountain Pass, go into the Creche Y’llek which is in the Monastery basement, go all the way to the back, deal with the Inquisitor, and turn the left statue forward and the right statue back to open the secret area. Continue forward and grab Blood of Lathander.
Best Karlach weapons in BG3 Act 2 – Halberd of Vigilance
There aren’t many great weapons in Act 2, but one you shouldn’t miss is the Halberd of Vigilance. It deals 1d10 + 2 + Strength modifier slashing damage and deals 1d4 Force damage. It’s special because it has Sentinel Weapon which gives you +1 to your Initiative rolls and Advantage on Perception Ability Checks. It also has Adroit Reflexes which gives you an Advantage on Reaction attacks.
Luckily, it’s much easier to get than the first two weapons found in Act 1. All you need to do is buy it from Lann Tarv who is on the ground floor of Moonrise Towers. Just make sure you have a way to negate the Shadow Curse.
Best Karlach weapons in BG3 Act 3 – Nyrulna, Balduran’s Giantslayer
Nyrulna is one of the best weapons in the game, especially for Karlach. It’s a one or two-handed weapon that deals 1d8 +3 + Strength modifier piercing damage that also deals 1d6 Thunder damage. It shines in a 6m radius like Blood of Lathander, has Veil of the Wind which gives you +3m to movement speed and jump distances and you are immune to falling damage, and it has Zephyr Connection which deals three to 12 Thunder damage in a 6m explosion when thrown and the weapon comes back to your hand.
You get Nyrulna in Act 3 by tricking the Akabi the djinn in Circus of the Last Days. There are multiple ways to do this, but the best way is to pickpocket his Ring. You’ll get teleported to a Jurassic Park area where you’ll find Nyrulna in a chest near the portal to leave.
Balduran’s Giantslayer is arguably the best weapon for Karlach in the entire game. It deals 2d6 + 3 + Strength modifier slashing damage. It has Giantslayer which allows you to double the damage applied by your Strength modifier on a successful it. You also get an Advantage on Attack Rolls against Large, Huge, or Gargantuan creatures. You also get Giant Form which allows you to grow, deal an additional 1d6 damage, gain 27 temporary HP, and get Advantage to Strength Saving Throws.
To get Balduran’s Giantslayer, you need to defeat Ansur the Dragon. Getting to Ansur requires you to solve a Dragon Head puzzle and four different Chamber challenges. Defeat the Dragon and the best weapon for Karlach is yours.
