The original Call of Duty: Warzone was a smashing success as a free-to-play battle royale set in the ever-successful Call of Duty franchise. However, as is the case for many Call of Duty games, developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision Blizzard saw the need for a numbered sequel to be released. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is the result of that, and the new battle royale will be available to play for free on PC starting November 16. Ahead of the game’s release, Infinity Ward has provided new details about Warzone 2’s new DMZ mode.
Broadly speaking, DMZ mode in Warzone 2.0 will let players enter the new Al Mazrah map and have the freedom to accomplish the objectives they choose to tackle. These include contracts, world events, faction missions, and more. The ultimate goal of DMZ is to loot as much as possible before escaping alive with as many rewards as you can. Any rare items earned can then be used in other Warzone 2.0 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 modes.
How Warzone 2 DMZ mode it works in practice, and the loss of the ‘gun grind’
The gun grind changes with Warzone 2 DMZ mode. While in a match, players will have a Stash (their inventory) which will be filled with weapons and valuable items they obtain. Everyone starts with some free contraband weapons that can only be used in Warzone 2.0’s DMZ mode. Players will also be able to bring in a customized weapon using a special slot, but it’s clear that this mode is focused on using the limited tools you have available.
As a trio, squads of players can enter the Exclusion Zone and complete Faction Missions to take part in challenges that offer unique rewards. The developer notes that objectives will vary a lot, so matches should play out differently from each other. Contracts and world events will also provide unique gameplay opportunities and rewards can include things like weapon charms, double XP tokens, and even the M13B assault rifle.
It’s important to know that DMZ in Warzone 2.0 is a high-stakes mode. Players will only keep what they can extract from the match with alive. Hopefully, that’ll create some intense risk vs. reward gameplay.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be released as a free-to-play game on November 16.
