Vakir and research speed

All the techs that you research in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters require Bloom Seeds. As such, it’s imperative that you always try to collect seeds whenever you can during missions.

Other factors also affect research speed:

  • Grimoires are items rewards from missions. The Libris Malleus ship upgrades increase research speed depending on the Grimoires that you have.
  • Some random events and Armory of Titan dilemmas may affect Vakir’s morale and research speed.
  • Missions and events may cause Vakir to get injured or be indisposed. If Vakir is unavailable, then research will be halted until she recovers.

The tech tree

In any case, the research menu is divided into two halves. The left-hand side predominantly contains Strategems, abilities that can be used on the battlefield. We discuss these further in our Strategems guide.

As for the right-hand side techs, some of which are also Strategems, you can see them listed below:

Research Tech/Strategem Effect
Poxwalker Necropsy Campaign progression
Psychic Attunement -2 corruption in the system
The Seed +1 Requisition; campaign progression
Advanced Seed Access +1 seed from missions; unlocks Extractor Servo Skull
Enhanced Attunement +1 Strategem slot
Bloom Suppression 1 -5% Warp Surge per turn
Tides of Escalation +1 WP each time there’s a Warp Surge
Source of the Bloom +1 Requisition; campaign progression
Advanced Seed Extraction +1 seed on extraction
Willpower 1 Target a Knight who regains all WP
Bloom Suppression 2 -10% Warp Surge per turn
Surge Prevention 1 Reduce Warp Surge by 100%
Bloom Seed Purification
– includes linked variants
-1 seed cost for Purification Seals; the linked techs are for other seed variants (i.e., Mortus, Dolorus, and the like)
Willpower 2 All Knights recover +3 WP
Bloom Suppression 3 -15% Warp Surge per turn
Surge Prevention 2 Reduce Warp Surge by 100% for three turns
Codex Toxicus +2 Requisition; campaign progression
Codex Attunement
– All five techs in the bottom row
These techs, once researched, allow you to find a Reaper boss that harnesses a strain of the plague.
Only one Reaper target may be active at any given point in time. You have to defeat that boss to select another attunement.

Campaign progress techs

As you can see in the image above, the first column begins with the “Poxwalker Necropsy” tech, followed by “The Seed.” These lead to early-game tasks where you learn about the Bloom Seeds/seed collection mechanic.

Shortly thereafter, you’ll need to research the “Source of the Bloom” tech. This reveals an Eldar Craftworld that has been corrupted by Nurgle, with a main mission called “The Nexus.”

Completing “The Nexus” unveils more research techs in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, as four additional strains of the plague get discovered. The branch below that has “Codex Toxicus,” which unlocks five “Codex Attunement” options.

Each attunement tech requires seven Bloom Seeds of a particular strain/color. Once researched, it will reveal the location of a Reaper boss. This boss has to be defeated before you can select another attunement. Since there are five Reapers/plague strains, you’ll need to do this five times as well to progress the campaign further.
