Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters starter classes and advanced classes unlock guide

The four basic classes

There are four starter classes for the Grey Knights in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters:

  • Justicar – An all-rounder that has some nifty defensive capabilities and buffs.
  • Interceptor – A melee specialist that can teleport and strike foes when they least expect it.
  • Purgator – A ranged specialist that can use heavy weapons.
  • Apothecary – A trooper that can heal teammates, as well as equip more Servo Skulls.

The four advanced classes

Meanwhile, these are the four advanced classes in the game:

  • Chaplain – A unit that can provide team-wide buffs.
  • Librarian – Can unleash devastating spells, including a squad teleport.
  • Paladin – A tankier version of the Justicar.
  • Purifier – A soldier that can burn enemies and purge them of their mutations (i.e., buffs).

How to unlock the advanced classes in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters

To unlock advanced classes in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, you’ll need to progress further in the campaign until you finish a main mission called The Nexus. Make sure you have a backup save since you’ll receive an urgent message from Grandmaster Kai a few in-game days later.

The Grandmaster tells you that a Grey Knight can undergo training, allowing you to select from four advanced classes. This character is randomly chosen from your roster, and they’ll be away for a prolonged period (roughly 45 days). That’s why a backup save is important since you don’t want to lose an integral character if you need them for most battles. After the long wait, you’ll have your first advanced class unlocked.

Note: Other than this instance, there’s no way for a starter class to turn into an advanced class.

Knight Requisition rewards

Past that point, you’ll soon see advanced classes as possible rewards when you check different planets. Make sure your Knight Requisition rank is level 3 or higher to ensure a better chance at rewards.

You can also use a backup save here as long as it’s before you get a Bloom mission notification. Every time you reload, you’ll see that the planets, rewards, and possible classes are different.

Note: Because these Grey Knights tend to be at a higher level, they might have perks that you won’t need. Reloading/save-scumming (i.e., just before you kill the final enemy to finish a mission) doesn’t work in this case, as the rolls are fixed depending on the Knight that you get.

Grandmaster’s Aid

Lastly, it’s possible to get an event where the Grandmaster admits that your group needs help. You can choose from the four advanced classes, and you’ll be given a low-level unit.
