The Strategems on the research screen

As with other tech options, the Strategems in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters all require seeds. While only the Poxus seed (i.e., green seed) is available early in the game, the rest will be revealed as you progress further in the campaign (i.e., after The Nexus main mission). As such, I advise you to collect as many seeds as possible. Likewise, don’t forget the Libris Malleus ship upgrade that can boost research speed further.

Anyway, most Strategems can be found on the left-hand side of the research menu/tech tree. There are, however, a select few on the right-hand side.

Research Tech/Strategem Effect
Enhanced Attunement +1 Strategem slot
Willpower 1 Target a Knight who regains all WP
Bloom Suppression 2 -10% Warp Surge per turn
Willpower 2 All Knights recover +3 WP
Surge Prevention 2 Reduce Warp Surge by 100% for three turns

These are the Strategems on the left-hand side:

Research Tech/Strategem Effect
Warp Field Penetration Unlocks the Strategem system and Quicksilver
Quicksilver – Target a Knight who gains +2 AP
Heal 1 Target a Knight to heal all HP
Gate of Infinity All Knights teleport to any visible location
Torpor All visible enemies are immobilized for one turn
Strength of Spirit All Knights gain +50% crit for one turn
Righteous Endurance All fallen Knights recover immediately and regain 50% of their max HP
Tide of Shadows All Knights gain +100% resistance for three turns; purifies debuffs
Precision Bombard Target a 4×4 area and deal 6 damage and knockback
High Sanctuary All Knights gain +3 armor for five turns
Heal 2 All Knights heal +6 HP
Dominate Target an enemy and afflict it with dominate for three turns
Bloom Excision Target a 4×4 area and purge all mutations
Mass Purification All Knights purify and heal +2 HP; lose all debuffs
Reflective Insight 1 +1 Strategem use
Reflective Insight 2 +1 Strategem use
Word of the Emperor All visible enemies are hit with +3 stun
Enhanced Focus +1 Strategem slot

Which Strategems to prioritize

Given that there are over a dozen Strategems in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, you might be wondering which ones need to be prioritized. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with Gate of Infinity. This allows your team to teleport to a specific location on the map regardless of each unit’s current spot. Because of this, you can bypass overwatch lanes or beeline for Bloomspawn targets to quickly finish a mission objective. This is also similar to the Librarian’s Warp Charged Teleport ability, so try to maximize the usage as you zip around the map.

Strength of Spirit (+50% crit) and Word of the Emperor (+3 stun versus enemies) are also great options. Both of these nudge you toward a more aggressive playstyle where you’re triggering precision strikes and executions. Combined with the Chaplain’s Litany of Hate, your units can have a lot of bonus AP from executions.

Equipping Strategems

Strategems can be equipped when you’re in the Teleportarium (i.e., the screen where you see your active squad just before you start a mission). Simply click on the button at the top of the HUD to see the ones that you’ve already unlocked.

By default, you only have on Strategem slot. However, you can research the following for extra slots:

  • Enhanced Attunement – Found on the right-hand side of the research panel; second row.
  • Enhanced Focus – Found on the left-hand side of the research panel; bottom row.

The fourth and final slot is unlocked only if you have a Prognosticar. This is obtained in the Manufactorum ship upgrades screen under Personal Systems – Augurium.

Once you have a Prognosticar, you can attune it on the galaxy map, whereupon its effects will also be active on adjacent planets. If you fight missions on those planets, then an extra Strategem slot will be available.

Using Strategems

Last but not least, you can use Strategems in Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters missions by clicking on the button in the upper-right corner of the HUD. This will show the ones that you’ve selected beforehand, and you can activate whatever you need. Don’t forget to research Reflective Insight 1 and 2 (bottom row of the research screen) if you want to gain additional uses in battles.

Note: From time to time, you’ll experience events or partake in missions that might affect Inquisitor Vakir. If Vakir is injured or indisposed, you won’t be able to use Strategems until she recovers.
