Warhammer 40,000: Darktide — How to fix error code 9999

Log on, log off.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a fun game to enjoy solo or with friends, when you’re able to connect to its servers. But sometimes, you can’t and it returns an error code that really doesn’t quite explain the problem. Error code 2003 has been particularly frustrating for players, but it’s not the only code in Tertium. And you may be wondering how you can fix error code 9999 in Darktide.

Unfortunately, there is no current direct fix. Error code 9999 in Darktide is one you get when there’s a problem with the game connecting to the server. Around the ‘net, it’s looking like the error has something to do with a failed handshake between the game and the servers. There are some steps you can try, however.

When the game is unable to reach the servers, it’s clearly a connection issue. Try refreshing everything by restarting the big three: your game, your platform, and your router. You don’t need to do all at once, but one at a time until you’re able to connect again. Hopefully.

Based on what the Darktide community has been trying, error code 9999 was temporarily fixed by downloading an experimental branch update. However, when the game launched both the current version and experimental branch were the same. If you’re still having problems, then you can try the next step.

Verify and reinstall

On Steam, you can verify your game to check for missing or corrupted files. Simply right-click on the game in your library, click on Properties, then go to Local Files. In that menu, click on the option that reads: “Verify integrity of game files…” It’ll take a bit of time, but it might be worth the effort. If this doesn’t work, you can try reinstalling the game.

Wait it out

Sadly, since this is a new error, you may have to wait for Fatshark to address it. From the sound of things, it could be on the server side. Naturally, that means any tinkering with game files could work if it’s on your end, but the chances are high you’ll have to wait for an update. Fatshark has been informed about the issue, so it could get fixed sooner rather than later.
