The 2017 VR Awards have just happened and in the categories specific to gaming the Oculus Rift picked up the award for best headset.

The Rift will surely have won this award due to recent price drops and the fact it can almost match the Vive for features at the same price. With the release of the Touch controller, the Rift is almost comparable to the Vive for features but let’s not forget you still need extra sensors for proper room scale. It is the more comfortable of the two but the new Vive Deluxe Audio Strap makes quite a difference to the Vive’s comfort. Still, the Vive is the hardware of choice when it comes to gaming. Hardware of the year also went to the Oculus Touch.

The VR game of the year went to Suvios’ shooter Raw Data which is one of our top VR games and is well deserved. It was one of the few VR games that has actually sold a bucket-load of copies. Other titles in that category included Robo Recall, Battlezone, Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, Audioshield,  Lucky’s Tale, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes,  Virtual Virtual Reality, Arizona Sunshine, SUPERHOT VR, and Lone Echo.

VR games are improving quite quickly and I suspect that by the time next year’s awards come around the competition will be tough.

A full list of all the winners and categories can be found on the awards page.
