We receive a lot of press releases and PC game news here at IncGamers, so it often has to be of personal interest to get noticed. Indie developers Variable State went straight for my weak spots with upcoming title Virginia by writing “missing person drama” and “inspired by Twin Peaks.” Good show, Variable State. Good show indeed.
David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Washington State-based show isn’t the only thing Virginia will be drawing from, though. The creators also mention X-Files and The Outer Limits, pretty much confirming that this title will have some kind of other-worldly or unusual presence. It also has FBI agents, of course.
You’ll be playing as an as-yet-unnamed FBI agent, newly graduated and (presumably) eager to get stuck in to some cases. Together with your agency partner, you’ll be investigating the disappearance of a young boy in the state of Virginia.
It’s promising a world “both familiar and strange” (yep, that sounds quite Twin Peaks) and a 90s cast of loners, creeps and dead-beats in America’s rural heartland. The first screenshot from the game can be seen above, with some rather lovely character art pieces below.
Virginia is scheduled for release in 2015. You can read more about the title, here.
