Meet The Pioneers, one of the first factions founded in the fictional Seattle of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. There are many vampire clans that have settled in Seattle, but The Pioneers were among the earliest to arrive. While their rule over the city has waned, The Pioneers still have their history, and their ambition.
The Pioneers of Bloodlines 2 was once led by the vampire prince Lou Grand. He created the faction, which stood apart from others, under a banner of unification. The faction accepted members from across many other clans. They did not band together under familial bonds, but that of a romantic approach in how to rule and guide their city. To them, Seattle is “the last frontier, a city without a centuries-old power structure and a place where they could shape their own future.”
Despite their strong beliefs, The Pioneers don’t hold the power in Bloodlines 2. Their independence can be respected, but they still only prosper under the rule of other, more powerful clans. However, they still hold control over some smaller areas within Seattle.
“We made this city and we will never let anyone forget that,” – Lou Grand.
Rose-tinted glasses
The powers of The Pioneers are rooted in their history. They have loyalty to their faction, which allows them to fight harder for their ideology. Naturally, being a part of Seattle for so long, the faction also has a lot of ties and cold, hard cash to fling around. In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, The Pioneers are betting on these attributes to hopefully gain control of the city once again. Here are the defining characteristics of The Pioneers from the press release:
-
Past Glories – Having built the city, many of Lou’s vampires are in love with their memories of what Seattle once was. Having known each other for a long time, they are intensely loyal. The Pioneers fight tooth and nail to preserve whatever remains of their old world – and of one another.
-
The Insider’s Club – The Pioneers held Seattle for the longest part of the city’s existence. That’s almost unheard of on the West Coast. Having lost so much in the last 20 years, they have become skeptical of the changing world, including any fledgling looking to join.
-
Old Money – There’s a lot of wealth in ruling a city for more than a century. The money of the Pioneers would earn a lot of influence almost anywhere in the world. In the modern boomtown of Seattle, though, all it seems to afford is a more comfortable slide into irrelevance.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 releases onto PC in March 2020.
