Microsoft is hosting an extended Xbox Games Showcase today, and it started off with some welcoming news for a popular survival game. Valheim will launch this fall, and when it does, it’ll be on PC Game Pass with full cross-play support. That means folks who have the game on Steam, the Microsoft Store, or PC Game Pass can carve the skin of blue ogre asses to turn into capes together come this fall.
It was a good way to start the show, following Sunday’s event that included a ton of games coming to Game Pass. Valheim is a beloved survival game, so it is nice to see it get getting the PC Game Pass treatment. The fall launch timing is good for developer Iron Gate, too. Valheim will soon get a major update during the fall. Mistlands will add a new biome, enemies, and more to the game.
“We’re beyond delighted to see the world of Valheim and our amazing community open up to even more people, and let our PC Vikings team up with their console shield brothers and sisters in the near future.” said Henrik Törnqvist, co-founder of Iron Gate. “None of this would be possible without the incredible teams at Piktiv and Fishlabs who are continuing to work tirelessly on the Microsoft Store and Xbox ports, enabling us to focus on the Mistlands update and our exciting journey through Early Access.”
Setting sail to new lands
Valheim is a Viking-themed, online multiplayer survival game. You can team up with a group of friends, or go solo to tackle the world’s challenges. Environments are procedurally generated with each save, meaning biomes and boss placement are completely random. You’re able to harvest wood, stone, metals, and enemy parts to create weapons and armor, or build up massive bases. Valheim launched into Early Access last year and became one of the biggest indie games of 2021.
With the upcoming update and Valheim going to PC Game Pass, more ogre-slayers may join the fray. Valheim having cross-play is certainly a boon, since it’s designed for teaming up to take on challenges. It’ll be out later this fall.
