As if the sunken crypts weren’t enough, the Mistlands update to Valheim added a whole new spooky underground location. The Infested mines double down on the bad guys and make the payoff more than worth it. The mines hold a resource that can only be found in their stinking depths. Having a guide on the Infested Mines and finding Black Cores in Valheim will have you forewarned and forearmed.
A guide to accessing the Infested Mines
Before you start, it is worth bearing in mind that the mines are not meant for players who haven’t already cut their teeth in the afterlife. Getting to them alone will be a struggle for anyone without the Wisp and some pretty heavy-duty equipment. Get your big boy pants on, and show me your war face.
The mines are a new addition to the map along with the new Mistlands biome. They reside under abandoned Dvergr dwellings. You can easily identify them by their derelict appearance, being covered in vines, slime, and other hideous detritus. Make your way through the doors, or slope, to the silent building. Head downwards into the depths to come up against the familiar white wall to the entrance of the mine.
What enemies to expect in the Infested Mines
Now, once you have made your way into the eldritch depths, prepare for the nasties within. Seekers will be your main issue with three different varieties all out to get you. The Brood is the smallest, regular will pose some threat, and the largest, Soldier, will give you a hard time. These are also accompanied by Ticks, just to add to the mele. Killing these will drop Blood Clots, a helpful ingredient for late-game recipes.
Black Cores and other Valheim loot in the Infested Mines
The treasures within make the effort all worth the journey to the mines. As you make your way through the twisting caverns, many offshoots will reveal chests and piles of gold. Most importantly, Black Cores lie in the depths of the Infested Mines.
As you make your way around, there will be hidden doors marked with glowing runes. These are treasure rooms and hold some of the best loot. Furthermore, it is important to keep an eye out for passages covered in vines or wooden boards. These can be broken to reveal new areas of the dungeon.
The two most essential bits of loot to look for are the Black Cores, which are an essential part of late-game crafting, and Seal Fragments. The latter is used to make the Sealbreaker, which unlocks access to the final boss of the game. There are nine fragments around various Infested Mines.
