The Abomination is a disgusting swamp-based creature that mostly comes out at night (mostly). It consists of four huge roots and can pound you into an indistinguishable pile of swamp goo very quickly. That is, unless you know how to defeat the Abomination in Valheim. Being prepared for this monster before you enter the biome will make the encounter much easier.
Make sure to check our guides and features hub for everything you need to know.
How to defeat the Abomination in Valheim
Due to the monster’s weakness, it is advisable to kite it around while using fire arrows. The Abomination telegraphs its attacks, making it quite easy to dodge. Due to the nature of the swamp biome, and the size of the beast, trees and foliage will slow it down as it tries to pursue you. You should be able to dodge between obstacles to keep a distance, picking away at its health until it returns to the ooze from whence it came.
Another effective way to defeat the Abomination in Valheim is to use slashing weapons. If you’re brave enough, a Black Metal Sword and Banded Shield can parry attacks and deal huge damage. This is a much quicker option if you’re the kind of player who likes to go in all guns swords blazing. As previously mentioned, the attacks are telegraphed, so blocking and parrying are well within the capabilities of most players.
Rewards for defeating the Abomination
It is well worth hunting and killing the Abomination for the unique items it drops:
- Root – This is only dropped by the Abomination in Valheim, and can be used to craft Root Armor. When equipped, it provides a bonus to Bow damage.
- Guck – Smells bad, looks bad. Used for a few banners and torches, but most importantly it is used to make Draugr Fang, a rather formidable Bow.
- Abomination trophy – Kind of gross; hang it on your wall if you don’t like having visitors.
