Valheim Crafting Guide Workbench Guide

Valheim crafting guide — Creating the Workbench and crafting basics

The Workbench

Recommended Videos

The Workbench is an important contraption that you have to build if you want to make the most of Valheim‘s crafting system.

You’ll need a hammer and 10x wood to construct a Workbench. With the hammer equipped, right-click to open the build menu and switch to the crafting tab. Click on the Workbench and find a suitable location for it (ideally, you should be surrounded by flat terrain).

Moreover, you’ll notice a circular outline emanating from the Workbench. This is its effective range, and you’ll be able to build more stuff within its radius.

Anyway, the Workbench requires a roof and it also can’t be too exposed. For now, you’ll simply want to collect more wood, enough to build some walls and thatched roofs (kind of like a shed).

You’ll construct roughly five walls to partially enclose the Workbench. Then, add thatched roof pieces and corner pieces to complete your makeshift shed. These will let you interact with the contraption.

The build menu (right-clicking with the hammer equipped) will show extra structures that you can place. It also has some nifty improvements that let you upgrade the Workbench.

Next up, you can learn about how to create additional starter gear pieces, or how to construct your first base.
