During this year’s conference call for investors and analysts related to fiscal year 2015/2016, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot stated some interesting facts about a promising title that will be announced soon:
“We continue to be very interested in VR. We are going to launch a few games this year. We don’t expect them to do big revenue. We have good experiences there, and we will surprise a few people also at E3 where we will announce a new title that is promising.
So yes, VR is coming, we are happy that Sony is doing a good job in presenting its new machine, the PlayStation VR, and we see now a good momentum, but we are very disciplined on that, and we don’t spend too much before there are enough machines installed. But we learned a lot at the moment, and we adapted our engines so that they can be ready when the market takes off.”
Guillemot also provided more details about the engines used on Ubisoft’s VR games:
“We use a combination of both [in-house engines and third party engines] actually. We are adapting our big engines to VR, because, as you know, we have big worlds and big games, but to make sure that we don’t spend too much, we are also using some engines that are ready to be used and well adapted to VR, so that we can bring content quickly to the market.”
Keep in mind that Ubisoft’s press conference at E3 will be on June 13th at 1 PM Pacific time.
