Total War Saga: Troy – Mythos — The best faction leaders for Mythic Expedition monster hunts
You don’t get to send out your own faction leader/epic hero on a Mythic Expedition. However, because of how the feature is presented, there are a few peeps who are more viable.
Odysseus and Sarpedon – Both Odysseus and Sarpedon start Total War Saga: Troy – Mythos‘ campaign at the western and eastern edges of the map respectively. The process might be easier compared to, say, Achilles, Agamemnon, or Hector who’ll likely be at the forefront, requiring additional armies as backup.
Note: The only issue with Odysseus is that his “Coastal Mastery” faction mechanic prevents him from upgrading anything but the main building in a land-locked settlement. This means you won’t be able to construct buildings for your unique monster unless the settlement is along the coast.
Penthesilea – Since she leads the only horde faction in Total War Saga: Troy – Mythos, Penthesilea is truly one of a kind. What makes her shine even more is that her “Blood Oath” faction mechanic lets you spawn Bloodsworn units (i.e., an Amazon Waaagh!) that can be used during the quest battle. Moreover, she doesn’t need to worry about the Administration Tier issues at all.
Perhaps the biggest downside, though, is that monster-specific buildings are still dependent on horde growth and army slots. If you pick a monster like the Hydra, you’ll have a hard time constructing all Hydra buildings in Penthesilea’s main army while ensuring that you have others to boost Amazon units and growth. You need to recruit additional generic heroes who’ll have the buildings that increase unit caps. Alternatively, you can go with Cerberus since the hellhound only has a single building chain for unit recruitment (i.e., Offering Chain -> Altar of Oblations).
Anyway, since we’ve discussed everything about Mythic Expeditions, it’s time to take a look at the monster hunts themselves. You can visit our Total War Saga: Troy – Mythos guides regarding the Lernaean Hydra and Cerberus.
