We’re under no illusion that Defiance was a lacklustre attempt at a cross-media game and TV show tie-in. The game was pretty disappointing and it could have been so much more.
TRION’s Defiance development team are currently in the process of relocating to TRION’s Redwood Shores HQ after numerous satellite branches were shut own following company restructuring. With the move almost complete, Defiance creative lead Trick Dempsey had decided to chip in with a state of the game update.
It’s apparent TRION realise the game is rather shallow and flawed stating:
“We have the opportunity to make Defiance into the gameplay beast that it always promised to be. Shooting, driving, and chasing down arkfalls are each entertaining as hell, and that’s a great foundation to build upon. Defiance has incredible potential, and it is going to reach that potential come hell or waters that are high”.
Once a game is released and the core foundations don’t keep gamers locked in, the damage is usually done so this could be a major hurdle for TRION to overcome at this stage.
There are plenty of updates planned starting with some of the game’s most obvious flaws, including some UI elements. The UI in Defiance is one of the worst released in an online game but to make it actually enjoyable to use to won’t be an easy task. Poking a fork in your eye  is more enjoyable than navigating around the Defiance menu system.
As far as some of the more specific planned changes are concerned, check Trick’s update.
