Total War: Warhammer III Tzarina Katarin and Kislev guide – Frost Fang and The Crystal Cloak quest battle

Frost Fang is Tzarina Katarin’s unique weapon in Total War: Warhammer III. It’s not part of a quest battle at all. Instead, you’ll automatically receive it once she reaches level 7. It reduces upkeep and recruitment costs, while increasing post-battle loot, melee attack, magical attacks, and weapon strength. You also gain two uses of the Frost Fang ability in battles. This is an explosion spell with a 15-meter radius.

As for The Crystal Cloak, it gives bonus armor, melee defense, and ward save, while lowering enemy hero success chance and wound recovery time. It provides The Crystal Cloak ability, a 20% damage resistance passive whenever Katarin is casting.

The Crystal Cloak quest battle for Tzarina Katarin in Total War: Warhammer III is unlocked once she reaches level 10. Be forewarned that it’s going to be tough if you go through with this early on and if you’re unprepared (as was my case when I wanted to test it out).

After the short intro, you’ll realize that Katarin’s army has been ambushed by Tzeentchian forces. I mostly had her initial unit types at the time, so I was caught flatfooted.

Assuming you have an infantry line of Kossars, as well as some ranged units, you have to quickly reposition them so that their backs are to the wall of ice. Some units will be able to make it, though others will be caught and engaged once Tzeentch’s Chaos Knights and Doom Knights.

Worse, there are several Pink Horrors and Soul Grinders that will burst down your units with warpfire, along with spellcasters that will ruin your day. Ideally, you’ll want to send out your cavalry (i.e., Winged Lancers) or beasts (i.e., Snow Leopards) to chase down ranged units, perhaps forcing the AI to skirmish and get confused. I managed to recover, just barely, by combining Katarin’s Ice spells for crowd control, and Tempest nukes from a Frost Maiden.

All right, let’s talk about additional mechanics for Tzarina Katarin and Kislev in Total War: Warhammer III. We’ll discuss the Motherland/Devotion system, Ice Court recruitment, and how we can unlock Boris Ursus.
