The classic RTS game Total Annihilation is currently free to claim at GOG, because you deserve it. The game normally retails for $5.99, and the free offer includes all of the same perks as the paid version, including the expansions and the soundtrack. The offer is only available for 37 more hours as of now though, which means anyone interested in grabbing this retro title needs to act quickly.
Just like with other free titles, Total Annihilation only has to be claimed within the time of the giveaway. Once the game is owned, it can be downloaded at any time. This is a handy feature for gamers with limited space on their hard drives. Although, Total Annihilation is an older game, so players will be pleased to know it’s only 1 GB.
Wipe them out, all of them
Total Annihilation is a real-deal RTS classic. The game was released in 1997 and won multiple awards. It’s a worthy competitor to games like StarCraft, Age of Empires, and Command and Conquer, though it’s not as well-known.
Here are the epic opening credits of the game:
What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds. The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fueled by over four thousand years of total war. This is a fight to the death. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the complete elimination of the other.
Total Annihilation includes both single-player and multiplayer modes, plus plenty of available mods to play around with.
GOG is also running a massive sale on Supreme Commander: Gold Edition and Supreme Commander 2. The sale prices are $3.99 and $3.24 respectively. These more recent RTS titles were created by one of the same designers that worked on Total Annihilation and are worth considering too.
There have been free games announcements every day lately, so make sure you’re not missing out. Overcooked 2 is available free on the Epic Games Store this week, in case you missed it. Twitch Prime has announced its monthly bundle for June, and PUBG is also free to play for the weekend.
