Toronto. That great Canadian metropolis that has given us famous celebrities such as Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves, and popular wrestlers such as Edge and Trish Stratus. The headquarters of our parent company, Enthusiast Gaming, happens to be in the city as well. Toronto is also the home of the Raptors NBA team and, now, the home of its newest professional esports team — the Toronto Defiant — which will take part in Blizzard’s Overwatch League. Yes, as you can see in the image above, they’re also using the Raptors’ color scheme.
Presenting The Toronto Defiant
The Toronto Defiant is owned in part by OverActive Media — which has stakes in Enthusiast Gaming — and Splyce, one of the most successful and highly experienced esports organizations in the world. Splyce has managed teams in various esports competitions for League of Legends, CS:GO, Call of Duty, Hearthstone, and Rocket League. And now, they’ve got the Toronto Defiant to tackle opponents in Overwatch.
For the team’s operations, the Toronto Defiant will have the following decision-makers in the squad:
- Beomjun “Bishop” Lee – Head Coach
- Jaesun “Jae” Won – General Manager
- Yun “Bubble” Ho Cho – Assistant Coach
- Dongwook “Don” Kim – Strategic Coach
- Dennis “Barroi” Matz – Analyst
For those who actively follow esports competitions, “Bishop” might ring a bell. He coached the London Spitfire for months. He also helped in building the squad that eventually captured the inaugural Overwatch League crown.
The Toronto Defiant have yet to announce who will be part of their star-studded lineup. That reveal is expected to happen this weekend during the Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo (EGLX). So yes, if you’re in the downtown Toronto area, be sure to check it out and give some high-fives to our editors and management. As usual, PC Invasion will keep you up to speed with developments and coverage of the event.
