Torment: Tides of Numenera trailer covers the backstory

A new video from inXile delves into the character backstory you need to know in Torment: Tides of Numenera (this stuff is covered in-game too, but it’s a nice summary). There’s a fellow who figured out how to transfer his consciousness between ‘vessels’ (bodies, basically) to indefinitely prolong his life, who now goes by the name of The Changing God.

Thing is, every time he leaves an older body behind it creates a new ‘Castoff’ consciousness. Initially the Changing God acted kindly towards these Castoffs, like a benevolent father. But these days he’s gone pretty far off the deep end and started to believe his own press about being immortal, so he’s a lot less empathetic.

In Torment: Tides of Numenera, players will embody the Final Castoff; gaining consciousness as your body tumbles through the sky. Here’s the video. Torment is out on 28 February.
