All rise, the greatest earthbender in the world has arrived. Toph Beifong, the fan-favorite character from Avatar: The Last Airbender, was announced as a playable character for Nickelodeon: All-Star Brawl. She’s bringing her fiery and stubborn personality with an array of heavy attacks. Yet, as an earthbender, she has the means to fight from afar as well.
Toph follows the tail of other Avatar characters, Aang and Korra, who were recently announced as playable characters. Compared to the other two, Toph seems to utilize her bending abilities the most. While Aang and Korra are somewhat reserved with their bending skills, Toph is filling the map with projectiles and sweeping earth attacks.
The melon lord arrives for another battle
Toph’s kit is filled with references to the show, including one of the rock puppets she uses while masquerading as the “melon-lord.” (She can even metalbend with one of her abilities.) Her moves look a bit slower than the others in the roster, but it’s made up for with her great range. She even has an ability similar to Steve in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, possessing the ability to create platforms on command with her earthbending.
Her special stage is ‘Omashu,’ a location within the Earth Kingdom from the show. This is a large stage with many hazards filling the screen, as merchant carts roll across the platforms. While I understand giving a stage from the Earth Kingdom to Toph, she’s not actually from Omashu, and I don’t think she’s ever visited as well. But the stage looks energetic and frantic, so all is forgiven.
Toph Beifong will release alongside the rest of the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl crew on October 5 for all platforms. Although, an official release date is not yet available on the game’s Steam page. Check out her gameplay trailer below.
