Toedscruel is a new Pokémon introduced in Generation Nine. The Woodear Pokémon is a Ground and Grass type with a unique ability, Mycelium Might. Despite its similarities to Tentacruel, Toedscruel is not an evolution or regional variant. Instead, it is a reference to real-life convergent species. Here’s our guide on Toedscruel weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Toedscruel weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
With Toedscruel being a Ground and Grass type, it is weak to a few types. Toedscruel has a 2x weakness to Flying, Bug, and Fire. Also, Toedscruel has a glaring 4x weakness to Ice, which is troublesome, as Blizzard and Ice Beam are common moves. The only types that Toedscruel resists are Ground and Rock along with an immunity to Electric.
With Ice being among Toedscruel’s biggest weaknesses in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, it makes sense to use Ice types against it. Ice types are especially strong against Toedscruel, as it doesn’t have the move coverage required to cause most Ice types any real problems.
Furthermore, while Toedscruel is somewhat bulky, that bulkiness only works against special attackers. With a base Defense of just 65, Toedscruel is weak against most physical attackers. Although Toedscruel’s base Speed of 100 does keep glass cannons honest, as they need to outspeed Toedscruel to get the job done.
Without a doubt though, out of Toedscruel’s weaknesses its reliance on status moves stands out most. If it can’t use Spore, then Toedscruel can’t do its job as a support Pokémon. Due to this, any fast Pokémon with Misty Terrain or immunity to sleep hard counters Toedscruel. Although be aware that Mycelium Might bypasses abilities, so abilities like Gholdengo’s Good as Gold will not protect it from Spore.
