Tiny Tina's Wonderlands cross-play

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will have full cross-play support at launch

Gather all of your friends and loot some dungeons.

For friends who play across all sorts of different platforms, here’s some good news. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will have full cross-play support when it releases on March 25. Regardless of the system you play on, you’ll still be able to play with your friends on other platforms. Randy Pitchford, CEO of The Gearbox Entertainment Company, excitedly announced this on Twitter.

This is certainly a great step forward for players across all systems. Cross-play support is more important than ever, as it allows communities to come together in ways they’ve never been able to before. When that all culminates in a game where Borderlands meets Dungeons & Dragons, we all win.

Cross-play support is obviously a big deal for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. However, things haven’t always been so simple when it comes to cross-play, particularly when Borderlands 3 was released. Gearbox Software’s previous entry in the Borderlands franchise has supported cross-play with Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Mac, Stadia, and Steam since June 2021. But unfortunately, PlayStation 4 and 5 versions of the game still don’t have cross-play support.

These days, Sony has a more positive approach to cross-play. But a few years ago it wasn’t nearly as open about this kind of thing. In fact, the developers behind Fortnite and Rocket League were both unable to fully support cross-platform play, due to Sony’s apprehension back in the day. And this is why Borderlands 3 still doesn’t have cross-play support. Randy Pitchford indicated that this may not be a problem for much longer, though.

In a reply to his tweet announcing cross-play support for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Pitchford was asked about plans for Borderlands 3 cross-play. His response was, “The future addition of PlayStation to crossplay for BL3 is now what I would consider to be inevitable. More info to come as soon as we have it.”

So, it seems that PlayStation players may be able to experience Borderlands 3 with their cross-platform friends soon. Of course, this comes nearly two and a half years after the game was released. But, as the saying goes, it’s better late than never.
