Some former devs from Harmonix have previewed Thumper, a self-described rhythm violence game.

Thumper is a little hard to wrap your head around in, as is the fact that the developers named their company Drool. However, Drool’s Brian Gibson and Marc Flury are undoubtedly veterans in the music game genre.

Thumper is a space beetle on a single track that twists and turns towards the horizon, in a collision course with a mysterious floating head. Disturbing visuals match the frenetic and intimidating tempo. Gameplay seems to be simple enough, as small lit prompts signal where Thumper jumps and turns.

It all looks wonderful and scary at the same time. As you watch the trailer below, remember: it’s still just in alpha.
