Yuan Shao’s missions and events in Total War: Three Kingdoms – Fates Divided
Yuan Shao’s general campaign progression in Total War: Three Kingdoms – Fates Divided is somewhat akin to Cao Cao’s.
Here are Yuan Shao’s missions:
Mission Name | Task | Reward |
Thinning the Herd | Defeat 5 armies or garrisons (Cao Cao’s forces) | +3,000 gold |
The Opening Move | Control Henei – Zhaoge (already held) and Dong – Puyang | movement range and morale buff; 6 turns |
Yuan Shao Pacifies the Enemies Within | Destroy Zhang Yan’s faction | population growth, public order, and peasantry income buff; 5 turns |
Yuan Shao Makes a Bold Move | Control Wei – Ye, Wei – Gongcheng, Henei – Zhaoge, and Shangdang – Zhixian | population growth, public order, and peasantry income buff; 5 turns |
A Foothold Past the River | Control Yingchuan – Xuchang and Chenliu | +2,000 gold |
A Defensive Line | Control Qi Pass and Gu Pass | morale and replenishment buff; 6 turns |
Ruler of the Eastern Seas | Control Langya – Dongwu, Kaiyang, and Buji Note: This might be automatically completed since the settlements are controlled by Yuan Tan (your son and vassal). | mustering and recruitment cost reduction; 6 turns |
Strangling the Snake | Control Dong – Dongping, Xiapi – Xuexian, Chen – Peixian, Pengcheng, and Huainan – Fuli | +4,000 gold |
Solidifying Control | Control Hangu Pass and Hedong – Anyi, Puzhou, and Pingyang | +4,000 gold |
A Strike to the Heart | Control Chen – Suiyang (Cao Cao’s capital) | +3,500 gold |
The Coup De Grace | Destroy Cao Cao’s faction | +5,000 gold; +20% income from all sources (8 turns) |
Snuffing the Embers | Destroy Chen Deng’s, Zhang Xiu’s, and Gong Du’s factions | +4,000 gold |
A Promising Start | Control Danyang – Jianye Note: This is basically the next part of your saga, one where you’re going to war against Sun Ce and Wu. | campaign movement range and morale buff; 6 turns |
As for the events in Yuan Shao’s campaign, these are the only ones I’ve noticed:
- Siphoning Resources (turn 7):
- Weaken Liu Bei – +5 public order; -15% unit upkeep; 8 turns
- Praise Liu Bei – +40 relations
- Imperial Aid: Military (turn 11):
- -2 mustering turns; -30% recruitment costs; -30% unit upkeep; +5% replenishment; 10 turns
- A Game With No Winners (turn 13):
- Choose Yuan Tan – -35 satisfaction for Yuan Shang
- Choose Yuan Shang – -20 relations with Yuan Tan
- The Wuhuan Alliance (turn 24)
- +10% replenishment; 5 turns
Note: Regarding “A Game With No Winners,” this dilemma makes Yuan Shao pick who his preferred heir is. Whoever you choose will have stronger relations with you, and the other son will have his relationship greatly deteriorate. There are also additional effects cited above. What’s odd, however, is that this doesn’t make you automatically switch your heir. Moreover, I tried waiting for dozens of turns. Come turn 48 or so, Yuan Shao was still alive (he’s not dying of disease or old age). As such, I’m not entirely sure if there’s supposed to be a major disturbance due to the squabbles of his sons.
Finally, let’s talk about the road to the endgame for Yuan Shao and what you can expect if you’re trying to restore the Han Empire.
