This Week in Digital Sales And Releases: January 17, 2014

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

We’d like to introduce you to what should be a regular feature here in GamingEnthusiast, as we will cover digital video game sales and new releases for the week. We’ll be covering PSN, XBL, the Nintendo eShop, Steam, GOGcom, Humble Bundle and Desura. Steam and GOGcom usually have sales over the weekend, while the consoles announce theirs on different days of the week. The consoles also keep their sales going for a week or so. Humble Bundle has monthly and weekly sales, and Desura has the best sale of all: Freedom Friday.

We can’t really cover every single game here (believe me, you don’t want us to), but this should give you an idea of what major titles are newly released or are on sale on your platform of choice. Please make sure to let us know what you think!

Gogcom

For Gog’s weekly sales, we have 32 classic Activision titles going for as low as 60 %. Game franchises in the sale include King’s Quest, Interstate 76, Phantasmagoria, Dark Reign, Gabriel Knight and more. New releases include The Banner Saga, Sid Meier’s Covert Action, Blackguards, Spellforce 2 and Ballads of Reemus. Check them out here.

PSN

On sale in PSN today are: Runner2, Puppeteer, Rain, and Rayman Legends for PS3, LIMBO, PixelJunk Monsters, and Spelunky on Vita, and Thomas Was Alone for Cross Buy. New releases include Assassins Creed III: Liberation HD and Guacamelee Bundle Fantastico on PS3, Age of Zombies and Doodle Devil on Vita, and Technos’ Double Dragon (originally on NeoGeo) on PSOne. Check out the full list here.

XBL

Not much on XBL this week, but like Sony, they also have Assassins Creed III: Liberation HD. You can check price and regional availability here

Nintendo eShop

Nintendo has one game for an upcoming sale this week; Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl. Grab it between January 20 to 27 for $ 20 off. New titles include F1 Race Stars Powered Up Edition, Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest, and Unepic. You can see Nintendo’s press release here.

Steam Specials

To distinguish from the infrequent Steam Sales, Valve has games on Steam Specials. Unlike Steam Sales, Steam Specials don’t get huge advertising and don’t involve a large number of Steam titles. Steam Specials can last for only a few hours, over the weekend, or for preorders, extended periods of time. We’ll cover a cross section of the games on offer, but you can always check this link at any time to see what’s available.

For preorder, Broken Age will be available January 29, and is 10 % off now. Thief and Men of War: Assault Squad 2 will be available February 21, and are on discount for 10 % and 20 %, respectively.

For sale over the weekend are Saints Row IV, Next Car Game (Note: Early Access), Nidhogg, Company of Heroes 2, Spellforce 2, and Guilty Gear Isuka.

Humble Bundle

This week’s Humble Bundle involves games from Bohemia Interactive. This includes the Arma games, including DayZ. Ending is their Humble Indie Bundle X, which includes Runner2, Joe Danger 2, Papo & Yo, To The Moon, Toki Tori 2+ and Surgeon Simulator 2013. You can always check out their bundles here.

Desura

Indie haven Desura may not be as familiar to you as the other digital platforms here, but you’re going to want to remember their name after today. Every Freedom Friday, they spotlight games on their platform that are available for free, no strings attached.

This Freedom Friday, in the spotlight are Menagerie, Ghoulish Hijinks, Pollo, and Real Horror Stories. You can learn more about these games, and Desura, here.
