As I began to slip deeper and deeper into my chair during The Game Awards tonight, I propped up with a start. It couldn’t be what I thought it was. But was it? When I saw what was clearly a flash of Bigby Wolf and Snow White, I finally found hope again. It’s true; The Wolf Among Us 2 is still coming, and it’s being made by …Telltale?
It was hard not to notice the Telltale Games logo at the end of the brief teaser. Telltale, as we know it, doesn’t exist in the same manner it had some years back. The studio was shuttered, laying off employees without the promise of them getting paid for the crunch time they endured. It was revealed during that time that the sequel to The Wolf Among Us was in the works, but it would now never see the light of day.
But it looks like that changed. Of course, this is likely the doing of LCG Entertainment and Athlon Games. The two companies announced it was bringing Telltale back. It wasn’t all good news, however, as the two in charge of the operation, Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle, couldn’t promise bringing back old Telltale employees. Well, they could, if they wanted freelancer contracts. However, according to GameInformer, some of old crew from the first game are involved. This includes directors Dennis Lenart and Nick Herman, as well as writer Pierre Shorette.
It will soon be among us
The teaser was very short, and offered only a few clues. We can tell from the voices that the original actors Adam Harrington and Erin Yvetter are returning to their roles as Bigby and Snow, respectively. If we can take the look of the trailer seriously, it certainly appears the the game will look similar to the original, with dark blacks and neon colors.
According to Venture Beat, Telltale is partnering up with AdHoc Studio for the project. AdHoc was created by some former Telltale employees, brought together to continue The Wolf Among Us‘ story.
“When the opportunity came up, it was an easy decision for us,” said Pierre Shorette, chief creative officer of AdHoc Studio via Venture Beat. “Developing The Wolf Among Us was my first project at Telltale and the start of a creative partnership with Nick and Dennis, so obviously we’re excited to further explore the Fables universe.”
We don’t have a release window for The Wolf Among Us 2 just yet. However, those who missed out on the first game can grab it for free off the Epic Games Store for a week starting today. The Wolf Among Us 2 will launch on PC via The Epic Games Store.
