It’s been not a good start to 2013 for Hammerpoint Intereractive and The War Z as their servers have come uner attack from hackers.
As of last night, the War Z servers have been under attack in an effort to shut down the servers and make the game unplayable. In a continually updated post on the The War Z forums, Hammerpoint are doing their best to keep players up to date with events as they happen.
Guys over the last few days we have been under attack by various forums of malicious attempts to shut down our servers. First we were hit with an attack that would rest our DNS IP so that you could not connect. This was solved a couple days ago early in the morning but took time to actually resolve world wide once the fix went in.
This morning we are being hit, again, with a DDOS attack on our login server. We are implementing additional DDoS protection and hope to have this resolved asap. Unfortunately with these types of attacks it is very difficult to give a good time frame of when it will be resolved.
Steam users are also finding that they are unable to play the game which has not gone down well with the community. Hammerpoint are now waiting for an update from the Steam crew to see if they can get this fixed.
In light of all the controversy surrounding the game, it’s not a huge surprise Hammerpoint find themselves as targets. However, coming under attack from hackers is never a pleasant experience and with any luck the issue will be sorted so people who have parted with cash for the game (yes there are some) can resume zombie killing duties.
