The Technomancer screens show Martian gunfights

The terrifyingly named Spiders Games have released some new screenshots of The Technomancer from their sticky web of game development.

The Technomancer is a forthcoming sci-fi RPG/action game hybrid that has you battling your way across Mars while fleeing from the secret police. Combat is all action-based, with three different fighting styles and four different skill trees for you to harness as you take down the opposition. It’s not all combat, though: it’s also got heavier RPGs elements like dynamic conversations, choices that impact the story, crafting, and companion characters.

Today’s screens offer a look at Noctis, one of the “last strongholds of civilization on Mars.” Despite that, it’s still home to plenty of threats ranging from bandits to monsters, which is probably why two of the three screens on offer have people brandishing large weapons.

Graphically, The Technomancer reminds me quite a bit of Borderlands, if Borderlands went with a realistic style rather than thick lines and cel-shading. I suspect it won’t really play like Borderlands, though; I get the feeling it’ll be more of a Bound by Flame or Demonicon-esque hybrid… which would make sense, being that Spiders developed Bound by Flame too.

The Technomancer is due out in 2016.
