Silent Hill 2 Feature

The Silent Hill 2 remake Steam page is live with hefty PC requirements in tow

Bloober Team and Konami are gearing up for a big splash from some old friends. However, it might be time for an upgrade to get the full Silent Hill 2 remake experience.

It’s been a long time since the internet has spoken about Konami developing something Silent Hill-related (let alone new projects). The news from the Silent Hill Transmission sent plenty of onlookers into a tizzy, wondering what new and long-rumored things would come to fruition during the promised video presentation. The fog has now since cleared, leaving us with a remake of Silent Hill 2 among other goodies. The remake’s Steam page is now live, revealing the PC requirements needed to bask in all its psychological horror glory.

As we delve further into the era of more powerful consoles, games coming to the PC have generally kept pace with the hardware needed to offer similar visual and graphical experiences. This was the case recently with the upcoming launch of Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Both the Silent Hill 2 remake and Sackboy will launch on PC and PlayStation 5, and the hardware demand is a bit daunting to say the least.

Hardware fueled horror

At the least, most people will be able to enjoy the thrill of Pyramid Head’s monstrous build in 1080P at 30FPS. The part where things get dicey is the move to the recommended PC specifications. If you haven’t been able to nab an AMD 6000 or RTX 2000 series card in the last few years, you might want to start hunting. It lists an RTX 2080 or RX 6800XT as the entry point to anything over 60FPS. It seems that some tweakage is to be expected, especially when attempting to run the Silent Hill 2 remake on PC at a 4k resolution. Nvidia’s DLSS technology is listed as an option, so one could guess that variable refresh rates and other GPU taxing sliders will be available to turn down or off. 12-16GB of RAM seems to be the baseline for big-budget games, which is also the case here.

The Silent Hill 2 remake does not have a release date at this time. However, many have remarked about it being far into development from its portion shown in the presentation. It’s also unclear if ray tracing will also be a part of the visual options in the future.
