The Quarry: Tarot Cards guide – The premonitions and visions

Death is all around you in The Quarry. Of course, as the saying goes: “Forewarned is forearmed.” There are scenes that you can watch, detailing what you can expect as you make certain choices. Here’s our Tarot Cards guide for The Quarry to help you understand the premonitions and visions, and when they will occur in the campaign.

The Quarry Tarot Cards guide – The premonitions and visions

To watch the Tarot Card visions in The Quarry, you’ll need to complete a chapter to have a conversation with Eliza. She then offers to help you by revealing a possible future through her crystal ball.

If you only found one card in a chapter, then no worries as that’s the only option. However, if you found two or more, then you’ll need to make a choice. This card’s premonition or vision can be rewatched using the menu. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the ones that you didn’t pick even if you managed to finish the game. In a way, this is unlike what you’ve experienced in The Dark Pictures games where all premonitions can be freely rewatched/replayed.

Note: If you simply want to watch other scenes or make different choices, you can create a backup save after Eliza tells you to pick a card to be revealed. When you load this save, you’ll be right at the part where you need to make a choice.

Prologue: The Fool

• What it shows: Jacob sabotages the van, causing the engine to go up in flames.
• When it occurs: Chapter 1
• How to do this: After chatting with Kaitlyn, you can break the fuel line as Jacob.
• What happens next: Later in the chapter, Jacob tries to pour water on the engine, but Ryan can interrupt this action. Chris Hackett then rides off and tells the kids to stay inside the lodge. To be frank, I’m not sure if this Tarot Card in The Quarry leads to major problems or character deaths down the line.

Chapter 1: Temperance

• What it shows: Emma grabs fireworks.
• When it occurs: Chapter 2
• How to do this: Make your way to the back of the storage room and ask Jacob to open it. Check the items in the room to find a code. Once you’re back at the counter, Emma will input the code and grab the fireworks.
• What happens next: Emma will light the fireworks during the bonfire. Much later (if she manages to get back to that spot), you can pick up some leftover fireworks. She can use these against enemies during QTEs.

Chapter 2: The Hanged Man

• What it shows: Jacob dangling from a tree due to a trap.
• When does it occur: Chapter 3
• How to do this: This occurs automatically while you have control of Jacob.
• What happens next: You can avoid a hostile confrontation with the hunter, causing him to let you loose. He’ll then rub some strange liquid on Jacob’s face.

Chapter 3: The Tower

• What it shows: Emma attempting to grab a zipline and falling to her death.
• When does it occur: Chapter 4
• How to do this: If Emma survives her initial encounter with the creature, her next scene will be at the top of the tower. You’ll have to reel in the cable and pass the QTEs to escape. If Emma fails a QTE while jumping, she’ll die.
• What happens next: Just Emma’s survival or death.

Chapter 3: The Star

• What it shows: Emma blinds a creature with her phone’s camera flash.
• When does it occur: Chapter 4
• How to do this: This will be Emma’s first encounter with the creature when she reaches the treehouse. However, I’m not sure how this is triggered. If she opens the trapdoor, she’ll automatically get killed. If she searches the bags, she’ll obtain the bear spray and taser, which doesn’t present the option to use the camera flash.
• What happens next: Emma’s survival means you’ll get the opportunity to save her again (or not) as depicted in The Tower card.

Chapter 4: The Magician

• What it shows: Ryan cutting off Dylan’s arm.
• When does it occur: Chapter 5
• How to do this: Dylan will use the PA system to distract the creature, but his arm will get bitten. Ryan then has the option to amputate it using a shotgun or a chainsaw. Use the chainsaw for some “groovy” action.
• What happens next: Cutting off Dylan’s arm staves off the infection.

Chapter 4: Strength

• What it shows: Nick’s infection makes him stronger, allowing him to choke Bobby and throw him like a ragdoll.
• When does it occur: Chapter 5
• How to do this: I haven’t actually seen this instance, but I do believe it’s at the start of Chapter 5. When Abby, Nick, and Kaitlyn hear an intruder, you can choose to run or hide. If you run and Bobby spots you, Nick can come to the rescue.
• What happens next: As of now, I’m not sure if this will affect how Bobby would act later in the game.

Chapter 5: The Devil

• What it shows: Nick’s infection takes hold, causing him to decapitate Abigail.
• When does it occur: Chapter 6
• How to do this: Nick will transform into a werewolf in the pool house. If Abby shoots him with the shotgun, he’ll run away. If Abby doesn’t shoot him, she’ll die.
• What happens next: Just Abby’s survival or death.

Chapter 5: The Hermit

• What it shows: Jacob has his leg caught in a bear trap. He tries to escape but falls on another one, crushing his head completely.
• When does it occur: Chapter 6
• How to do this: Pass the QTEs when Jacob is being chased by the creature. He’ll then find himself in an open area with a lot of bear traps. There’s an option to pull free, and failing this leads to Jacob’s death. The only difference is that I haven’t seen the part where Jedediah, the old man, sees Jacob’s corpse. Instead, the camera just zooms out.
• What happens next: Whatever happens, if Jacob is alive, he’ll get captured by the hunters.

Chapter 6: Justice

• What it shows: Laura shoots the cop, Travis, in the gut.
• When does it occur: Chapter 7
• How to do this: Near the end of this flashback chapter, Laura has a chance to lunge for Travis’ gun. If you fail the QTEs, Laura will accidentally shoot Travis.
• What happens next: There’s an option for Travis and Laura to help each other much later in the game, so you might want to get on his good side for a particular achievement.

Chapter 6: The Moon

• What it shows: Laura stabs Travis with the tranquilizer syringe.
• When does it occur: Chapter 7
• How to do this: When you’re able to explore the police station, Laura can go to the furthest room on the second floor. She’ll then find a syringe in the cabinet.
• What happens next: I’m not sure how the particular scene is triggered. My guess is that it’s hard-locked when Travis attempts to frisk Laura afterward. If Laura complies or doesn’t do anything, Travis will automatically find the syringe and take it away.

Chapter 7: The World

• What it shows: Ryan falls down a pit while Laura looks on.
• When does it occur: Chapter 8
• How to do this: There’s a section in this chapter where Laura and Ryan are arguing in front of the manor. This Tarot Card in The Quarry shows only Ryan falling, but the actual scene has the two of them taking a plunge.
• What happens next: It’s a continuation of the chapter.

Chapter 7: The Chariot

• What it shows: Dylan and Kaitlyn are opening the van’s door.
• When does it occur: Chapter 8
• How to do this: This will occur automatically halfway through the chapter.
• What happens next: They find Emma inside the van. I’m uncertain as to what would occur if she already died beforehand.

Chapter 8: The Lovers

• What it shows: Laura bites Ryan’s arm.
• When does it occur: Chapter 9
• How to do this: Ryan has lost a lot of blood after being stabbed by Bobby. As a last option, Laura offers to infect him with a bite.
• What happens next: This gives Ryan some slight regenerative powers, preventing him from bleeding to death.

Chapter 8: Wheel of Fortune

• What it shows: A werewolf killing Bobby.
• When does it occur: Chapter 9
• How to do this: This seems to happen automatically toward the end of Chapter 9. Then again, an earlier prompt while controlling Ryan allows you to stab Bobby. You’re notified that Bobby was “too weak to defend himself” from the werewolf attacker.
• What happens next: Make sure you shoot that creature when given the opportunity to do so.

Chapter 8: The Empress

• What it shows: A werewolf killing Constance.
• When does it occur: Chapter 9
• How to do this: This will happen automatically toward the end of Chapter 9 if Constance is still alive. There’s an opportunity to kill her a bit earlier during the button mash sequence when you’re controlling Laura.
• What happens next: Make sure you shoot that creature when given the opportunity to do so.

Chapter 8: The Emperor

• What it shows: A werewolf killing Jedediah.
• When does it occur: Chapter 9
• How to do this: This seems to happen automatically toward the end of Chapter 9 if Jedediah is still alive. There’s an opportunity to kill him a bit earlier while you’re controlling Laura.
• What happens next: Make sure you shoot that creature when given the opportunity to do so.

Chapter 9: Death, The Sun, and Judgment

• What it shows: Sadly, I’m not sure yet. That’s because I picked up The Hierophant card. Because of it, Eliza no longer wanted to read the remaining Tarot Cards in The Quarry.

Chapter 9: The Hierophant

• What it shows: This is a special Tarot Card in The Quarry, and it’s discussed in detail in a separate guide.

Chapter 10: The High Priestess

• What it shows: I don’t think there’s an additional cutscene here, as this is already the last chapter. Your final conversation with Eliza has nothing to do with visions anymore.
