Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has expressed concerns that The Phantom Pain might be so big “players will start complaining that they can’t clear the game, [it’s] too big to clear.”
In an interview with IGN, Kojima said: “The Phantom Pain has the risk that people won’t be able to finish the story as it will be “more than 200x bigger than Ground Zeroes.”
When he was pushed for details he remained tight lipped saying: “I cannot disclose the amount of missions [in The Phantom Pain],” said Kojima, “but we’ll have a lot of missions in there.”
Ground Zeroes, the prologue game to The Phantom Pain has been under a lot of scrutiny due to its reportedly short length. Kojima has defended the game saying that “”It’s not about clearing the story, it’s not about clearing the mission,” he explained. It’s about discovering new elements, new routes, new ways to play.”
Ground Zeroes is due for release this month on the 18th in North America and the 20th in Europe and Japan. The Phantom Pain will be released later though no date has been revealed.
